Nursemin Selçuk

Nursemin Selçuk (b. 1984, Diyarbakır) is a multidisciplinary artist whose work explores the intersection of painting, sculpture, and material transformation. Growing up in a family of seven, she developed a profound connection to art from an early age. In 1990, she moved to Istanbul, where she completed her education and refined her artistic practice.

Selçuk’s formal training began at the Sabahattin Camcıoğlu Workshop, where she immersed herself in fine arts, honing her technical skills and artistic vision. She later pursued fashion design at the Istanbul Fashion Academy, leading to a successful career designing collections for various brands. Despite her accomplishments in the fashion industry, painting remained her true passion, and she continued to explore different textures and materials in her creative practice.

In 2020, Selçuk made the decisive transition to focus entirely on painting. Establishing her studio in Karaburun, Arnavutköy, she found inspiration in the coastal landscape, particularly in the driftwood carried ashore by the lodos (southwesterly wind). This natural phenomenon became a catalyst for her artistic exploration, as she began collecting and transforming these organic materials into sculptural and mixed-media works that blur the boundaries between abstraction and nature.

Currently, Nursemin Selçuk continues to push the limits of form and materiality, integrating elements of nature into her artistic practice. Her work reflects an ongoing dialogue between texture, movement, and transformation, positioning her as a distinctive voice in contemporary art.
